Godfrey's after-fete pile

Eight browser-tab games
for when the bunting is boxed up

Once the trestle tables are folded and the last deckchair is stacked in the church hall, Godfrey likes a game that keeps ticking over until next summer. These eight are free in an ordinary browser tab: a comic hospital, a frontier town, a player-run space market, a medieval throne war, a dieselpunk front, a hockey club, an ancient city and a monster-hunting quest.

Price of all eight: nothing to start, though each sells optional extras in-game.

01

Free entry to every one

Signing up at any of the eight is free of charge, and months of play need no spending at all; the wards, forts, sieges and districts all come in full.

Each studio runs an optional shop for shortcuts and decoration. Plenty of veterans have never bought a thing, and a family computer can usually have spending switched off in the account settings.

02

Through the studio's front door

Each button sends a new tab to the studio's own official site. Sign up there with your email and you have a hospital, a cowboy, a trading base or a kingdom to call your own.

Each game greets a newcomer with a tutorial. Stick with it right through, since it introduces the menus and the economy a step at a time.

03

Quick looks and long evenings

Shut the tab and all eight carry on regardless: patients wait, jobs finish, cargo lands and the daily hockey match is played. A look with breakfast and another after supper keeps everything moving.

Short visits are for collecting, queueing up work and chatting with your Order, fort or alliance. Keep a long evening back for the weighty calls: a new production chain, a siege or the next era.

04

Your login stays with the studio

Your username and password for each game live with its studio, so enter them nowhere but the official address of that studio. Every one of the eight deserves its own password, plus whatever extra login check its studio supplies.

No studio worth its salt will ever ask you to send your password. Strangers dangling free gems for your sign-in are fishing for the account itself; ignore and report them.

How the eight earned a pin on the noticeboard

  • Every one of them loads in the browser already on your desktop or laptop, with no installer to wait for.
  • Signing up is free across all eight, and players who never spend still get the whole game.
  • Wards, forts, cargo routes and city districts keep working away in your absence, so a glance between cups of tea still pushes something on.
  • All eight have been running and updated for years, which means busy communities and plenty of help for newcomers.

No. All eight load in a desktop or laptop browser, and five additionally offer an official mobile app for anyone who prefers one.

No charge to join and none to play. All eight register you for free and leave the full game open; buying anything in-game is your choice alone.

No. Godfrey only pins them up; independent studios run every one, and each button opens that studio's official site.

No. Eight separate studios means eight separate free registrations, one per game.

Throne: Kingdom at War, Iron Order 1919, Hockey Arena, Rise of Cultures and Fallen Sword have official apps alongside the browser version. Kapi Hospital, The West and Prosperous Universe are browser-only on Godfrey's noticeboard, so sit down at a computer for those three.

Hockey Arena, with its daily match, or a quick round of the wards in Kapi Hospital. Prosperous Universe and Iron Order 1919 reward longer sittings.

Yes. Throne has Orders, The West has forts, Rise of Cultures has alliances, Iron Order 1919 has coalitions, Fallen Sword has duels and an auction house, and every trader in Prosperous Universe is a real person.
